Vehicle Overview
Mercedes-Benz AG launched its all new, two-door, four-cylinder roadster at the February 1954 "New York Auto Show", complementing its grand touring range, which included the legendary 300 SL Gullwing and Roadster.
Sharing several engineering and cosmetic elements with its far more expensive siblings, the internally designated W121, was produced at the Unterturkheim factory between 1955 and 1963, during which time, twenty-five thousand, eight hundred and eighty-one examples had been built;with a total of 562 in RHD, and of those, just 77 in 1959.
Delivered new to the Ghanian market, before subsequent importation into the UK in 1996, the car was restored in 2000 by marque specialist Brian Gunney of Red Castle Classics, Caerphilly for his own use - and on completion, was used in a marque feature in October 2000, Classic and Sportcar magazine.
Superbly maintained since, with extensive invoices for routine servicing and consumables, chassis #R121040-9500175 has a DB140 silbergrau (silver grey) exterior, complemented by an excellent burgundy interior, and accompanying, tailored, mohair hood and hard-top.
MOT'd until June 26th 2014, UK road-fund-licence exempt, eminently suitable for touring and requiring only routine maintenance, this immaculate example of the appreciating 190SL is now available for viewing. SOLD |
