Vehicle Overview

Mercedes-Benz AG launched its all new, two-door, four-cylinder roadster at the February 1954 "New York Auto Show", complementing its grand touring range, which included the legendary 300 SL Gullwing and Roadster.

Sharing several engineering and cosmetic elements with its far more expensive siblings, the internally designated W121, was produced at the Unterturkheim factory between 1955 and 1963, during which time, twenty-five thousand, eight hundred and eighty-one examples had been built.

#A121042-20-016830 was delivered new to the UK market, via Thompson Docksey Limited of Southport Lancashire, on June 3rd 1960, one of 3,977 produced that year, of which just 150 were in right-hand-drive. Registered 135TKE, records appear to show that the current mileage of 40,734 may indeed be the car's actual total mileage, reinforced by invoices for routine servicing and MOT's.

Purchased by Vincent Marsh Esq of Epping, Essex on March 26th 2001, the SL was maintained throughout his ownership by marque specialist Roger Edwards (Motors) Limited of Wembley, Middx with sundry parts and supplies sourced from Mercedes Benz parts specialists, Jacksons of Bournemouth, before being purchased by the current keeper, a Mercedes Benz Club UK member on February 20th 2007. At this time, the registration plate was de-assigned and replaced with the period correct 804 XUE.

During his ownership the car has been the subject of a complete restoration, undertaken by himself to exacting standards, with photographic record of the rebuild and parts sourced from noted "Classic Benz" parts suppliers, Mercedes Benz of Poole. It's post-restoration, concours success -

2009 Midlands Festival of Transport "Show winner"
2010 Capesthorne Hall Classic "Car of the show"
2010 Tatton Park Show "Mercedes Benz Car of the Show" and Owners club stand winner
2011 Tatton Park Show "Mercedes Benz Owners Club stand winner and best 60's car
2012 Manchester Event City "First place and best German marque"
2012 CarFest North "first place and car of the show"

This achievement is documented with multiple certificates, on file.
