Designed by Malcolm Sayer and engineered by Bill Heynes, the Jaguar E type Series 1 Coupe was launched to a highly expectant global audience on March 16th 1961, at the Geneva Motor Show. Introduced initially for export only, the domestic market had to wait a further four months for the delivery of the first coupe's, with a price tag of £2,097.00….equipped with the same, triple SU carburetted engine, as Jaguar's outgoing XK150S.
Refined and developed from motorsport success….Jaguar's first win with the E type was at Oulton Park, a mere four weeks after its launch, when Graham Hill celebrated victory, with the Equipe Endeavour team's RHD roadster, "ECD400", at the Easter Monday meeting.
Produced in three series (Series 1- 1961 to 1968, Series 2- 1969 to 1971 and Series 3 - 1971 to 1974), over thirteen years, more than seventy thousand E types left the "Browns Lane" factory, in Coventry UK.
The car we offer, chassis #860294 was completed on March 15th 1962, and delivered new via Jaguar main agent, Henly's Limited, on April 19th 1962, to AP Burt and Sons Limited.
Specified in right hand drive, with an opalescent dark blue exterior, wire wheels and a linen, grey leather interior, this outstanding E-Type (the 294th built), was delivered new, and remained in the West Country until 1995, in the careful hands of seven owners. This is substantiated by -

- recent contact with previous keeper Ray Dickens, who owned the car from 1974 to 1982 and enjoyed mutiple Jaguar Drivers Club Concours success with the car.
The Jaguar was purchased by its current custodian in September 1995, and subjected to a two and a half year, total restoration - the standard of which, was acknowledged by its victory, as the 1998 Autoglym Club Class UK Champion, at the NEC Classic Car Show.

Used regularly over the ensuing fourteen years, alongside other cars in the vendors collection, the decision was taken in October 2009 to completely restore the E-type for a second time.
With parts supplied by respected marque specialists - Martin Robey and M&C Wilkinson, the car was disassembled to component form and a ground-up restoration undertaken, using a body, engine and interior specialist for each stage of the rebuild. In each case, this rebuild is documented extensively with photographs.
In the interests of safety and vehicle usability, the car is now fitted with -

Over the last twenty years, the vendor has won more than forty National Concours awards, with multiple marques - other cars in his collection (Morgan, Porsche, Jaguar, Ferrari and Aston Martin), in both the UK and North America.
Completed in July 2012, this previously superb Jaguar E-type is now simply stunning……at the annual Gawsworth Classic Car Show on May 6th 2013, amongst more than eight hundred collectors cars present; the Jaguar was awarded "best coupe" and "best detailed engine bay". To reproduce this craftsmanship would take more than two years, and an investment of £150,000+.
