Vehicle Overview

As enthusiasts of all things Ferrari, we're very pleased to be able to offer the very best RHD Ferrari 246 GTS extant - a Ferrari S.p.A. Classiche'd, multiple concours winner, most recently at the FOC GB, Northern Ferrari Day on 23/6/13, and subsequent National Concours on 14/7/13.

Conceived by Enzo and Alfredino (hence "Dino") Ferrari, with engine design by Vittorio Jano (who was responsible for the engineering of the Alfa Romeo 8C and Lancia Aurelia), the "Dino" badged, V6 powered, 2 seater sportscar was Ferrari SPA's affordable alternative, to their more expensive V12 range. Designed by Pininfarina, and built by Scaglietti, the first Dino was produced on March 1st 1969.

Debuted at the 1969 Geneva Motor Show, the very early production 246GT's (Series 1-357 produced)) featured knock-off wheels and Girling brakes, which were replaced in 1970 by five bolt Cromodora's and Ate brakes (Series 2-507 produced)…the same year in which the first Dino 246 GT RHD, was delivered to the UK market. The vast majority of production (1,431 coupe's and 1,264 GTS's ) were Series 3 cars, and with the release of the car in the United States, production continued until July 1974. The first production Dino GTS #03688, was delivered in the UK in March 1972, and the last in February 1974.

The car we offer, chassis #06716 was completed in Maranello, Italy in August 1973. One of 242 documented Dino GTS's, destined for the UK market - #06716 was delivered new via the then Ferrari agent for Birmingham, Colmore Row, specified in rosso-chiaro (exterior) with a nero vinyl roof and registered POB222M. The car's history is detailed in the Dino Register.

The car resided in the Isle of Man and thence mainland UK, with three owners, before being purchased by David Rochford Esq on July 25th 1981. Initially used as an everyday road car, and subsequently dry stored, the car received a complete restoration by a Dino tipo specialist, which was completed in May 1998. The car was repainted in the original Dino colour of ferro grigio metallizzato, complemented by a bordeaux interior... a colour combination which highlights the timeless lines of the Dino GTS, with the distinctive metallic grey paintwork, accentuating the curvaceous bodywork.

As a long-time member of the Ferrari Owners Club of Great Britain, David's exceptional standard of a complete nut and bolt restoration, attention to detail and fastidious, ongoing approach to Concours preparation, resulted in the following success over more than a decade -

Ferrari Owners Club National Concours
Dino Class x 3
Champions Class x 1
Second Champions Class x 1
Overall Car of the Day x 1
At the Northern Ferrari Owners Club Day - the car either won the Champions Class or Victor Ludorum award each time it was entered, over more than a decade.

It appeared at the National Finals of the Autoglym Concours Championship on ten consecutive occasions (1999-2008), collecting numerous class wins at Regional and National level, and also won the Meguiars "Car of the Day Champion", at the Alexandra Palace Classic Car Show.

#06716 was also featured in Mark Evans "A car is reborn" TV series, first aired on November 13th 2001 and subsequently in several classic car magazines.

After more than thirty years of continuous ownership and significant concours success, we sold this unique GTS to a new keeper in 4/12 - a fellow member of the Ferrari Owners Club GB, where the car joined his extensive, private collection. Presented with the unique opportunity to further upgrade his collection, we again sold #06716 to its current custodian in 7/13; since which time, the car has been similarly superbly maintained, in a heated and dehumidified motor-house.

With routine attention by marque specialist SMDG Limited on 30/4/14, MOT'd on 7/8/14 and now road fund licence exempt, the current owner has been offered the opportunity to purchase an earlier production Ferrari V12, and has decided he would like to sell the 246 Dino GTS, hoping it will be purchased by an equally cherishing, new owner.

Supplied with all tools, manuals, workshop service guides and a tailored embroidered car cover - #06716 was Ferrari Classiche certificated on 12/3/14 and its engraved folder, accompany's the car.

The Dino tipo, in both GT and GTS variants, has seen considerable appreciation over the last three years, as enthusiasts realise just how enjoyable the "baby Ferrari" truly is. With RHD 246 GTS project cars in extremely limited supply.... and very much in demand; combined with the associated parts availability and costs, restoration specialist of choice and the likely elapsed time for completion to prepare a comparable, concours standard restoration - this represents a unique opportunity, to own the very best RHD Ferrari 246 GTS, combined with the additional investment potential.
