Vehicle Overview

Presented at the 1971 Turin Motor Show, Ferrari S.p.A’s first rear-engined twelve-cylinder supercar – the 365BB “Berlinetta Boxer”, was designed by Leonardo Fioravanti of Pininfarina and intended to compete directly against Lamborghini’s existing Muira, and new Countach. Updated and subsequently presented at the 1973 Paris Motor Show, 387 were completed over the next three years, before the second iteration – the 512BB (complete with enlargened, “flat” twelve-cylinder engine) replaced it in mid-1976. With the addition of an integral “chin” spoiler, improved external ventilation and dry-sump lubrication, 929 BB’s left Maranello between 1976 and 1981, before the BB512I replaced it. Now equipped with Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection, delivering cleaner emissions and improved balance of performance, 1,007 examples were delivered globally, before production ceased in 1984. With a reputed top speed of 160 mph, complemented by distinctive design and enhanced ergonomics, the BB512I remains highly collectible thirty-two years after production ceased.
